The unique charm of second creation

The children are making the most of junk and giving it new life and meaning. But the first creation is far from the end of our learning journey. After experiencing and enjoying the creative process, the second creation around 'reflection and refinement' introduced the children to a deeper level of learning.

Many of you may be wondering what is meant by ‘second creation’. At Huili Nursery Nantong, the children express and share their creations with their friends after they have finished their work. In the constant exchange, the children's ideas rubbed off on each other and sparked off different inspirations. They collect and identify the opinions of others and use them as a basis for further refinement and enrichment of their own work.

For example, some children hope to make their works more rounded by colouring; some children begin to reimagine their work, trying to present it in a three-dimensional way. In the second creation, we encouraged the children to search for references in the creation. Looking at the real picture, the children noticed that the giraffe really did have two antlers on its head; some pigs have a spiral tail; a pig's nose is a lot like a button… By comparing real pictures, children begin to pay attention to details and choose the right materials to present these details. For example: a nail is a giraffe antler; the triangular mosaic tile is like giraffe ears, a spiral wire ring is piggy tail.

In the second creation, children can express their thoughts and feelings and learn to listen and accept the opinions of others. They will try to think, make choices and put them into practice on their own. We hope that through such creations, more people will be able to see the children's ideas and leave their own questions and opinions, and we look forward to a bigger and more exciting meeting of minds!
