We built a house for the little fish!

17 Jun 2024

In Hiba Academy Nantong, project-based learning is an important component of daily teaching and the themes are diverse. Museums, pirate careers, small restaurants, grocery stores... Children's wild ideas provide endless inspiration for project themes.

Recently, children in EY 1 and EY 2 gained inspiration from the story of "The Three Little Pigs" and wanted to build a house for their good friend "Little Fish"! They used open resources in the classroom such as cardboard, hot glue guns, and clay to successfully build the house frame for Little Fish. As the project progressed, the children used various resources around them to further refine the details of the house. They even visited the school's boarding house in person.

In Hiba Academy Nantong, experience in project-based learning has shown that expanding experiences, discovering problem-solving abilities, and transferability of knowledge are more important than simply obtaining knowledge. Project-based learning is guided by real problems, centers on pupil autonomy in learning, and has exploration and practice with problem-solving as its purpose, which is far more proactive than passively waiting for knowledge to be imparted.
