“Physical Development supports Personal, Social and Emotional Development as increasing physical control provides experiences of the self as an active agent in the environment, promoting growth in confidence and awareness of control. It supports Communication and Language because a child who can effectively use the large movements, gestures and the fine movements involved in speech is able to convey messages to others.”
Tickell Review of the EYFS, 2011
At Hiba Academy Nantong, our physical education teaching team has designed various interactive, purposeful, and fun courses and games to meet the needs of children's rapid physical and mental development. These courses and games help children understand the importance of physical activity, promote the coordinated development of various functions, and facilitate positive and healthy growth.
Although fine motor skills and gross motor skills are both important abilities that need to be emphasised in the Nursery, there are differences in the content and requirements of individual physical fitness and health development among children at different ages. Our teachers have developed targeted teaching content and methods based on different age groups and conducted differentiated teaching to make the teaching plan suitable for each child, helping to improve the skills they need at each stage.
小小班
EY1
When a two-year-old enters Nursery for the first time, they are not yet familiar with the classroom or the teachers. Our PE Department will use some simple interactive games to establish a friendship bridge with the children. After developing a good friendship with the children, a variety of games will gradually be introduced to help them improve their coordination and engage in gross motor activities. For example, using different ball games to help develop the children's hand-eye and foot-eye coordination, or climbing and jumping to gradually build their confidence in controlling their own bodies.

EY2
The children in EY2 have gradually adapted to the learning and living rhythm of the Nursery. In addition to regular indoor physical education classes, teachers will lead the children to explore more challenging environments, such as the playground and Sports Hall of the Primary school, where they can practise skills related to ball games such as throwing, catching, and kicking. At the same time, we encourage children to engage in team cooperation to help develop social and emotional skills and enhance their social abilities.

EY3
When children enter EY3, their intellectual and physical development has progressed. In the teaching process, in addition to developing their basic motor skills such as rolling, running, jumping, and stopping, teachers will also incorporate interesting storylines to help children better understand and master sports skills. At the same time, teachers also focus on cultivating children's team spirit and self-management abilities, allowing them to experience the joy of cooperation and the importance of self-control in games and sports. Teachers guide children to actively participate in physical exercise, cultivate healthy lifestyles, and develop good physical literacy.
大班
EY4
The children in EY4 are quite proficient in basic movements such as running, jumping, throwing, and catching. They have also mastered balance and coordination skills more skilfully. They have begun to explore and attempt more difficult movements in participating in sports activities. However, their competitive awareness during this period will also become more prominent. Teachers will actively guide positive emotions during the course of the curriculum, while grasping the difficulty and competitiveness of the game, encouraging children to face success and failure, and promoting the formation of correct behaviour habits to cope with the more challenging Grade 1.
