Thousands of books are displayed at Hiba Academy Nantong. You may also find that books are not only exclusive to libraries. Different types of books will appear in different places with different values and meanings, supporting children to explore the world.

Inspiring the love of reading and developing strong reading habits are consistently supported at Hiba Academy Nantong. Interactive book reading, where adults and children actively discuss the content of stories, is of great value in promoting children's language and literacy skills. Also, children's understanding of the real world, the imagined world and their emotional feelings are further enriched and integrated with reading.

In the Nursery, the reading activities and independent reading are embedded in the children’s school days from the early stages of curriculum planning. A school-wide ‘Book Week' has further stimulated children's interest in books. Through a variety of activities, children have been guided to experience the fun of reading in different ways.

Book Fair

The school ran a three-day book fair, which was located on the second floor of the Library, displaying a wide range of books in English and Chinese, for our Nursery, Primary and Junior High pupils. Children selected their favourite books carefully. When they came across something they particularly liked, they immediately shared the 'treasured books’ with their friends. If the 'Wish List' could talk, the love and enthusiasm for the books they had chosen would be spilling out of it. The book fair was also open to parents on Friday and we hope you were able to take a book to read with your children.

Mystery Reader

Mystery readers went into the classrooms to read with children and share their favourite books. Who are they? They were members of the Hiba community: senior pupils, teachers and non-academic staff. These slightly unfamiliar faces added a different kind of vitality to the classrooms. With their voices, they led the children into new and exciting worlds.

Which 'book character' would you be? It's a wonderful experience to express your favourite books with characters and to see the richness of stories through the other characters around you.

On Friday 4th November, the whole Hiba Community joined the “Book Character Day", where pupils and teachers were dressed up as the characters in the books. Pupils showed us their rich imagination and expression by emulating their favourite characters.

Bookmark Design

By creating bookmarks, our pupils expressed their own concrete and unique understanding of books. We will continue to collect the pupils' individually created bookmarks, with the best ones being printed and distributed in the Library during the year.

A good book helps us to be at peace with ourselves and to bring our thoughts and feelings into the world of imagination and diversity. Throughout the week, we hope that these various fun-filled reading activities have planted the seeds of a love for reading in the hearts of our pupils. The seeds will sprout and grow with the continued nourishment of the reading environment. A constant source of vitality and energy for every Hiba pupil.
