Albert Einstein,world-renowned mathematician, and physicist once said: “The only thing that you absolutely have to know is the location of the library”.
As an important part of the campus, the libraries at Huili School Nantong have the important mission of providing pupils with various learning resources and reference documents as well as books that are just good fun to read. Today we are proud to have invited Ms Marta Monforte Perez, our Head Librarian, to introduce our amazing library.

Our library aims to be a hub of learning and a place of inspiration where pupils are encouraged to be critical thinkers, life-long readers, ethical users of information and inquirers of the world around them. Our pupils visit the library regularly with their classes. The librarian collaborates with the teachers of every subject to create meaningful learning experiences when pupils visit the library.
The library has got two beautiful spaces: the Nursery Library and the Primary and Junior High Library.
Nursery Library
Our nursery library is located on the second floor of the Nursery building. Pupils will find it a place of exploration, discovery, and inquiry. A lovely array of bookshelves display a variety of picture books and storybooks carefully selected by the library team for the nursery pupils. In addition to a wide range of exciting and interesting books, the nursery library has a small stage and U-shaped soft cushions inside for impromptu activities and performances by teachers and pupils.

Primary and Junior High Library
On the first floor of the Building H is the library for Primary and Junior High. When you go inside the library, the endless rows of bookcases are the first thing you notice. The books are organised into various categories based on their content so that they are easy to find. In the centre of this space, a sizable "tree" made of sound-absorbing cotton, which provides a calm reading space for our pupils.
The library is designed to support the learning journey of pupils in Primary and Junior High. The space has flexible seating, a reading corner, and seven rooms specially designed for teamwork and collaboration.
Resources
The library has a wide selection of materials in both Chinese and English. The books were carefully selected in partnership by the Academic team and the librarian. They align to the subjects that are being taught at school and they provide an excellent support to the learning journey of all the pupils in every key stage of their development.
For this first year, the library will have more than 8,000 titles in English and 5,000 in Chinese. Our library will not only have printed books, but our pupils will be able to access a wide selection of audiobooks, e-books, digital resources and research databases.
Curriculum
The Nursery Library has a special session every Tuesday and Thursday. In a Nursery class, the focus will be on storytelling and activities related to the story. The stories that will be read to the pupils will be carefully selected according to the topics that are being taught by their regular teachers. The Nursery pupils will get to know a wide range of popular stories, in Chinese and English, that will instil a love of reading to our youngest pupils.

In Primary and Junior High, the resources will aim to support the inquiry-based learning happening in their regular classes. The librarian will support the pupils by providing carefully selected texts and resources.
Services
In addition to excellent hardware facilities, vast library resources and a high-quality library curriculum, we have designed the following services for our pupils and families:

The librarians will be happy to help families to choose the most appropriate book for pupils, give tips to encourage reading at home and provide support to create life-long readers and learners.
The library has a special check-out programme for the pupils staying in our Boarding House. Apart from the titles that they can borrow on a regular basis, the library will work closely with the boarding staff so the pupils can also have a selection of books for them to read in the evenings.
Events
The library will organize some events for pupils and families with the aim of creating a whole school reading culture. Special days and holidays will be celebrated with stories, library assemblies and storytelling for the youngest pupils. The librarian will regularly provide some workshops and activities for families and parents so they can support encouraging reading and literacy from home.
Our first "Book Week" will take place next week. Every pupil should be able to find the book on their "Wish List" during the book fair, we hope. Book Week includes a variety of fascinating events in addition to the book fair, including a dress-up day, mystery reader, door decoration, bookmark competition, etc.
We will begin a creative photo sharing competition on our WeChat account "Huili Nursery Nantong" today through until 4th November. "Me and my favourite book" is the topic. We're asking all bookworms to submit to us an artistic snapshot of themselves holding their favourite book via WeChat.
After we receive the images, we will run a poll in the article for the next week, and the submission that receives the most votes will win a secret reward.
