What Makes Huili Nursery Special?

The first five years of a child’s life are some of their most informative and important and, as a parent, you want to make sure that they are at a school that will care for, nurture and inspire them. We believe that by combining the Chinese National Curriculum with the ‘best of the west’ within a bilingual environment we will give your children the best chance possible. At Huili Nursery, the children will be in own section of the school where they will learn through both ‘play’ and formal lessons. Trying things and assessing the outcome is how humans have become the dominant species on the planet and being able to understand ‘why’ things happen rather than just ‘how’ things happen leads to far greater results. This higher-level thinking starts in the Early Years and is evident throughout the children’s journey through the school. The ability to use these skills in both Chinese and English will set your children apart from their peers in the career marketplace. Pupils will grow and develop around a play-based model of learning, rooted in the Huili values and identity, in a context which is meaningful and fulfilling to each unique individual.

We apply the latest evidence-based practices for early childhood development and education that are embedded in the philosophy of child-led learning, with the Huili values and identity at the heart of practice.

 

Fun

 

Children learn best when they are surrounded by meaningful learning opportunities. Learning spaces which are age- and stage-appropriate are used indoors and outdoors and are adapted to the meet the children’s preferences, thereby maximising ownership of the learning journey.

Like young children, early years education evolves and improves constantly. We continually rise to this exciting challenge, maintaining momentum and delivering current best practice whilst preserving the highest quality in educational service provision.

 

 

Our  Curriculum

 

The Huili Nursery curriculum combines the English Early Years Foundation Stage and the Chinese Curriculum (from three to six years) guidelines. The result is an encompassing framework for teaching and learning implemented according to four guiding principles:

 

• Every child is unique. They are constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.

• Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships.

• Children learn and develop in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents.

• Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates.

 

There are seven areas of learning and development that shape our educational programmes. These comprise three prime areas and four specific areas. Moreover, as a bilingual nursery, we work towards learning outcomes in communication and language and literacy in both English and Chinese.

Learning is constantly developed through child-led, play-based activities. Pupils are invited to share what they already know and, with the help of the adults around them, explore their learning in greater depth.

 

Each area of learning and development has a set of desired and age-appropriate learning outcomes. We monitor these through observational assessments as the children engage in independent play. Examples of these observations and pupil-practitioner interactions are recorded as part of the children’s ‘Focus Week’ reports, ready to be shared with parents.

 

 

We will be sharing further information with you in the future about how to help children learn effectively, improve children's independence, and relieve parent's anxiety in Nursery, etc.
